Walking the Ochre Trail at Roussillon

Few landscapes in Provence are as immediately recognisable as the ochre cliffs of Roussillon. Their intense reds, oranges and golds appear almost improbable against the surrounding pine forests and pale stone villages, creating a landscape unlike any other in the region.

The experience begins at the Sentier des Ocres, a network of walking paths laid out through former open-air quarries where ochre was once extracted for pigments used in paints, dyes and construction materials around the world.
