Fragonard Maison & Boutique - Arles

Fragonard begins in Grasse, but its Arles presence belongs fully to the cultural geography of Provence. Founded in 1926 by Eugène Fuchs, who named the perfume house after the Grasse-born painter Jean-Honoré Fragonard, the Maison has long connected perfume, decorative arts and the Provençal idea of refinement.

In Arles, this history has taken a more architectural and cultural form. At 7–9 rue du Palais, close to the Roman amphitheatre and ancient theatre, Fragonard opened a boutique on the ground floor with guest rooms above: the first address of this kind for the house. The building’s stone façades, sage shutters, ironwork and interior details place the brand within the material language of old Arles rather than in a neutral retail setting.

The significance of the listing is strengthened by Fragonard’s nearby Musée de la Mode et du Costume, opened in July 2025 after the renovation of the Hôtel Bouchaud de Bussy on rue de la Calade. The museum brings together costume and fashion collections connected to the Costa family and to Provençal dress history, making Fragonard’s Arles project an act of cultural preservation as much as commercial presence.
